Geaux Spartans! Geaux Wolves! By St. Tammany NewsTonight should be an exciting night for high school football fans. No matter which side of the parish you live on, St. Tammany Parish will be well represented in the second round of the state playoffs. The St. Paul Wolves of Covington and the Salmen Spartans of Slidell are on a roll right now. Last week, the 8-2 Spartans rolled over Pearl River High and the 10-1 Wolves smacked Destrehan High in the first round of the playoffs. Tonight, both teams will be on the road. St. Paul’s takes on the Thibodaux Tigers in Thibodaux, while Salmen tries to roll over the Breaux Bridge Tigers. These both should be exciting games. Our teams are considered favorites. St. Paul’s is seeded seventh in the playoffs and are the District 7-5A champions for 2009. Thibodaux is seeded 23rd in the playoffs. The Spartans are seeded fifth and are the runner-ups to the District 9-4A championship while Breaux Bridge got lucky to be seeded 21st for the championship run. Though this is only the second round of the state playoffs, it is still exciting to know that two St. Tammany teams are playing hard and doing their best to get to the state championships to be played in the New Orleans Superdome. We hope that each team moves on up in the playoffs. When you have two teams from the parish playing, it is hard to pick a favorite. So, to maintain what is left of our objectivity, we are telling both the Wolves and the Spartans to do their best. Yeah we want them to win, but we are also proud of both teams for doing so well this year. Geaux Wolves! Geaux Spartans! |
