Slidell junior Abby Brown scored two goals and passed for three assists, while teammate Jenna Terrebonne got a hat trick helping the Lady Tigers capture a 7-0 season-opening victory over Salmen Tuesday at L.V. McGinty Sr. Stadium.

“It was cool,” Brown said. “They’re playing me at stopper this year. Last year, I played all defense, so it was pretty cool to get out there and shoot.”

Last season, Brown was a midfielder/center.

Slidell coach Shannon Gipson said Brown had a great performance.

“I guess the numbers speak for themselves,” Gipson said. “Outstanding job. This year, she’s a junior, she’s taking more of a leadership role and she’s has a major role in our team.”

Slidell didn’t waste much time before getting on the board. Brown had a shot go wide right in the fourth minute, but four-minutes later, she hit Terrebonne with a pass and Terrebonne tallied on a shot from the middle of the field to make it 1-0.

In the 16th minute, Terrebonne dribbled up and sent a pass to Katie Borchert, who also scored from midfield, giving the Lady Tigers a 2-0 edge.

Eight-minutes later, Salmen committed a foul inside the box, giving Slidell a penalty kick. Brown nailed the shot and it was 3-0.

Salmen had an opportunity to score before the half closed when Aeriel Lara dribbled up. Slidell goalkeeper Heather Nikolas came out to defend, but Lara’s shot was wide and the match went to halftime with the Lady Tigers ahead 3-0.

Like the first half, Slidell didn’t take much time to get on the board.

In the 46th minute, Brown fired a shot from the right into the left part of the net and the Lady Tigers had a commanding 4-0 advantage.

“I dribbled past to midfield and shot it,” Brown said.

Salmen took a shot in the 50th minute that Nikolas saved.

In the 53rd minute, the Lady Tigers struck again. Brown made a nice centering pass to Shelby Pellinen and she rewarded Brown with the assist by putting the ball in the back of the net, upping the lead to 5-0.

Just four minutes later, SHS added another off corner kick. Whitney Campbell sent the kick to Samantha Stubenrauch and she made it 6-0.

The Lady Tigers finalized the scoring during the 59th minute as Brown got her third assist, this one to Terrebonne, who posted Slidell’s seven goal.

Gipson said Campbell and Marisa Maynard played well defensively for Slidell.
