Time to give thanks for many things

When the Pilgrims sat down with the Native Americans over 300 years ago to a big dinner that began the tradition of Thanksgiving Day, they were giving thanks for making it across the Atlantic in one piece and finding an indigenous people that were willing to help the British colonists make it through a long cold New England winter.

Be safe this holiday season

The firefighters at Fire District 12 put on an interesting and eye-opening demonstration this week. They built a room, and stocked it with a real Christmas tree, furniture, photographs etc. It was a nice Christmas scene reminding us how wonderful the holiday season can be. Then they faked an overloaded electric socket and set fire to the tree. In a matter of minutes, the entire room was engulfed in flames.

Higher Ed proposes critical reforms

This past legislative session, Speaker of the House Jim Tucker passed a bill that created a “Postsecondary Education Review Commission” which was charged with studying Louisiana’s higher education system. Called the “Tucker Commission,” the group is also looking at ways to save state dollars by better aligning needs with services, eliminating duplication and maximizing efficiency.
