Alexander completes second year at Guilford College

Covington High graduate making his mark

Sophomore Jordan Alexander recently completed his second year with the Guilford College men’s soccer team, which is located in Greensboro, N.C.

Alexander, a Covington High graduate, who is a 5-foot-11 midfielder and forward, started in seven of 16 games after returning from a preseason injury five games into the season. He finished the year with 10 points on three goals and four assists.

Alexander’s best game this season was a victory against Emory & Henry College Oct. 28, when he recorded a goal and an assist. The win clinched Guilford’s spot in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

He also scored goals against Washington and Lee University Sept. 29 and Eastern Mennonite University Oct. 3. In his two seasons as a Quaker, Alexander has 27 points on 11 goals and five assists.

Fourth-year head coach Jeff Bateson led the Quakers to an 8-12-1 record, 3-7 in the ODAC. Guilford posted its most wins in a season since 2004 and reached the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals.

Bateson expects as many as 22 letter winners back in 2010, including Alexander.
