Salmen playoff tickets on sale

The Salmen Spartans are looking for a return trip to the state semifinals after their 34-29 victory over the Breaux Bridge Tigers. Friday night, the Spartans take on the Edna Karr Cougars at Hoss Memtsas Stadium on the West Jefferson High School campus with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale this afternoon in Salmen’s fieldhouse for $8 per seat. At the gate, they are $10.

CRD holding basketball registration

The Covington Recreation Department is taking Youth Basketball registration for boys and girls ages 5-16 at the CRD office, located at 317 North Jefferson St. Suite C from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The deadline for 5-6-year olds is Jan. 8, 2010 and 11-16s have until Jan. 20, 2010.

SHS hosting one mile and 5K races

Slidell High School’s Cross Country Team is sponsoring a 1-mile/5K run Dec. 5. The event begins at 10 a.m. on the school’s track.

Registration runs from 9-9:45 on race day. Registration is $5 and doesn’t include the shirt. All money raised goes to the Cross Country Team.

CRD holding flag football registration

The Covington Recreation Department is accepting Fall 2009 Flag Football Registration for adult men and women for $350 per team.

The games are scheduled for Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings.

2010 clinic being held for umpires

Training for umpires for high school and recreational baseball/softball begins Jan. 10, 2010.

NCS holding Soccer Camp

Northlake Christian School is holding a soccer camp Dec. 21-23 from 2-5 p.m. for $140. This clinic is designed for the players to develop their technical abilities, speed, agility and flexibility all while participating in a fun environment and is geared for the player to understand proper techniques (shooting, passing, dribbling) that will help them benefit in the sport. NCS coach Nick Chetta is teaming up with Brandt Quick, owner and founder of BQuick Athletic. For more information, e-mail Chetta at Nchetta@northlakechristian.org.

Tennis group offers programs

The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
