As a service to students and employees, the St. Tammany Parish School Board, in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, administered 837 vaccines for H1N1 last Saturday at Fontainebleau Junior High School.

School board spokesperson Meredith Mendez said that when doors opened at 9 a.m., about 70 adults and children were waiting to receive the vaccine.

Within about 30 minutes, the line was served and Mendez said the crowd was steady throughout the day.

Immunizations will continue to be given to students and school board employees with identification at the following sites.

Children under 9 require two vaccinations 28 days apart and should receive the first vaccination no later than this Saturday in order to receive their second vaccination in January.

The immunizations are being offered free of charge.

Siblings of students can also receive the vaccine, even if they are not enrolled in school.

The vaccines are given from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Future sites and dates are:

• Dec. 12, Northshore High School, 100 Panther Drive off U.S. Highway 190, Slidell;

• Jan. 9, Covington High School, 73030 Lion Drive off U.S. 190, Covington;

• Jan. 16 Fontainebleau High School, 100 Bulldog Drive, off La. 59; and

• Jan. 26 Pearl River High School, 39110 Rebel Lane, off Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River.
