Slidell police returned from Tyler, Texas, Wednesday with an alleged armed robber, who along with another Slidell man robbed a gas station on Robert Boulevard at gunpoint Jan. 7.

Gary A. Gilmore, 26, 1523 Savannah St. Slidell, was extradited from Tyler where he had fled after the robbery. Slidell police charged him with armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Gilmore and his partner, Rocarldo R. Weiters, 23, 645 Spring Branch, Slidell, allegedly robbed Grumpy’s Texaco, and Gilmore’s face was caught by the station’s video cameras. Several hours after the robbery, Weiters was stopped by a Louisiana State Trooper, but managed to escape with one handcuff attached to his wrist. Then Weiters was stopped by St. Tammany Sheriff’s east of Slidell.

After a car chase followed by a foot chase, deputies found Weiters hiding inside a refrigerator inside a nearby apartment complex. Weiters was taken to the Slidell Police Department where he was charged with armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm. Weiters told police that he and Gilmore committed the robbery. Slidell police put out a warrant for Gilmore’s arrest, and Jan. 14 they got word from the Tyler Police Department that they had arrested Gilmore.

The pair may also be connected to the armed robbery of an adult novelty store in Waveland, Miss. Their faces were captured by the store’s video surveillance system.

Gilmore is originally from South Carolina and has a record there for armed robbery, and second-degree lynching for which he went to prison. Weiters also has a record for armed robbery. He also faces unknown charges from the Louisiana State Police. Both men will also be charged for the Waveland robbery.

They are being held in the St. Tammany Jail.
