Lakeshore trimmed by STA

St. Thomas Aquinas edged the Lakeshore Titans 37-35 Wednesday at home. Lakeshore’s Mikal Mazik finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Cole Freeman was credited with six assists. Lakeshore is 15-9 on the season.

Coach Steve Alfonso said his team dug themselves into a hole early, but clawed back to take a lead, but ran out of gas at the end.

Slidell defeats Mandeville

Slidell’s Tigers picked up a 52-45 victory over the Mandeville Skippers in a district game held Tuesday at MHS. Slidell (19-7) is 8-1 in district.

Tevin Parker paced the Tigers with 16 points, while Brennan Reynard scored 14 points and Andrew Winston posted 12. Nicolas Abram and Armand Williams finished with five each.

MHS’ Ryan Detillieu scored 19 points and Zach Adema had 11.

Covington downs Ponchatoula

Covington’s Jordan Bedford poured in a game-high 26 points Tuesday to help carry the Lions to 66-58 home district victory over the Ponchatoula Green Wave. Bedford had a strong all-around performance collecting five rebounds, three blocks with two assists and two steals. Shaq Callahan registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds along with three steals. Phillip Bickham contributed 14 points with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Terrance Singleton chipped in with four points and eight rebounds, while Montelle Chatman added four points and four boards for the Lions.

CHS (19-8) moved to 6-3 in the District 7-5A race. The Lions got off to a quick start racing out to a 27-12 first quarter lead. Ponchatoula fought back and outscored CHS 18-9 in the second period, but the Lions still held a 36-30 halftime advantage.

Northshore tops Fontainebleau

Northshore’s Panthers defeated the Fontainebleau Bulldogs 59-43 Tuesday at home.

The Panthers (7-16) are 2-7 in league play, while FHS (14-12) fell to 3-6 in district play.

Michael Lewis topped NHS with 16 points. Jared Townsend scored 13. Brandon Eddleston registered seven points, while Chandler Brown tallied and Mike Duplessis posted six each.

FHS’ Richard Bienvenu topped the Bulldogs with 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds with two steals. Tyrus Parker added 13 points with nine rebounds a steal and an assist. The Bulldogs played without leading scorer Quin Cooper, averaging 19.3 points per game, who was out with flu like symptoms. Additionally, starting point guard Quinn Dotson is still out with an injured right hand, while Joe Gomez missed the game still nursing an injured ankle and Troy Trahan only played a half due to battling the flu.

Hammond defeats St. Paul’s

Hammond ran past the St. Paul’s Wolves 74-51 Tuesday at home led by Mark Bridgewater with 22 points and Mike Henry with 18.

St. Paul’s (7-19) slipped to 2-7 in district. Derek Arnold topped the Wolves with 14 points. Arnold also pulled down four rebounds with a block. Will Gensler finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. Luke Baumgartner also added nine points with three offensive rebounds and an assist, while Wells Morgan chipped in with eight points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Marc Robertson contributed six points with a rebound and an assist. Jonathan Schoen scored five points for the Wolves.

Pope John Paul II downs Doyle

Pope John Paul II’s Matt Binder posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists during a 56-38 victory over Doyle in a district road game Tuesday. PJP (15-10) is 4-5 in district.

Joel Price scored 17 points and Calvin Brazley added 10.

Slidell edges Covington

Slidell’s Brennan Reynard scored 25 points, helping his team capture a 70-69 victory over Covington despite Jordan Bedford recording 32 points and six rebounds in a district game held Friday at SHS.

Tevin Parker tallied 21 points, while Andrew Winston posted 10 and Joseph Gayles finished with eight.

Phillip Bickham posted 17 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot. Jarius Bickham finished with 10 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Shaq Callahan added five points and eight rebounds for the Lions.

Lakeshore tops Pearl River

Lakeshore’s Mikal Mazik continued his consistent play registering a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds to help spark the Titans to a 47-39 victory Monday at home.

Al Riles contributed 19 points with three steals, while Jared Scott gave the Titans a lift off the bench chipping in with eight rebounds.

Lakeshore coach Steve Alfonso said his club play very good in the second half in all phases of the game.

Pearl River held a 14-12 lead after the first quarter, but Lakeshore came back to outscore Pearl River 9-5 to take a 21-19 halftime lead. Pearl River fought back and led 29-28 entering the final period.

Lakeshore put up 19 points holding Pearl River to just 10 to record the eight-point victory.
