Mandeville freshman Delaney Sheehan scored four goals, while sophomore teammate Julia Hunter found the back of the net three times in an 11-0 playoff victory over the Pineville Lady Rebels Friday at Lakeshore.

No. 3 Mandeville (32-2-1, 12-2) advances to the regional round to face the winner of 14th seeded Hahnville and No. 19 Comeaux. Pineville (9-13, 1-5) has its season come to a close.

Mandeville got off to a slow start offensively as far as putting shots on frame, but they played good defense throughout.

“We really wanted to be aggressive and try and press forward and keep it on their end as much as possible,” Mandeville coach Sean Esker said. “I think we were able to do that. It helped us when we started slowly to be able to finish up.”

It took the Lady Skippers 12 minutes to score their first goal, but after that, the goals kept coming.

Sheehan talked about the start.

“At the beginning of the game, it wasn’t going as well and no one was really working as hard as we should have,” Sheehan said. “When we started picking it up, I think that’s when it turned around.”

MHS’ initial tally came off a corner kick. KK Peters took the kick and Whitney Murchison headed it in for a 1-0 lead.

Eight-minutes later, Hunter got on the board with a shot from the middle of the field to make it 2-0.

Then it was Sheehan’s turn. Rachel Robinson sent a pass to Sheehan who dribbled up. With a defender on her, she found the lower left corner of the goal and it was 3-0 in the 24th minute.

In the 28th, Sheehan showed off her passing skills, sending a ball to Hunter, whose shot was just by the Lady Rebels’ goalkeeper and into the lower right corner of the net.

The Lady Skippers continued to sail along smoothly and added another in the 30th minute off a free kick. Peters took the kick and sent a high shot over the defense and the goalkeeper for a 5-0 advantage.

In the 33rd minute, Missy McGuire found Sheehan, who tallied her second goal and it was a 6-0-halftime margin for Mandeville

The second half was much of the same story. Seven minutes in, Sheehan completed her hat trick when she dribbled in the middle of the field through defenders and scored upping her club’s lead to 7-0.

Three minutes later, Sheehan and Hunter connected again with Hunter making it 8-0.

Mandeville went up by nine in the 54th minute, as Lindsay Smith hit Megan Kottemann for another tally.

Abby Post, who started in goal and then got to play in the field found her way into the assist column for the team’s 10th score when her pass to Kaitlin Davis got it to 10-0.

Sheehan capped off the match’s scoring in the 65th minute.

Hunter said the victory was great.

“We started off a little slow, but then we played really well toward the end and we worked really good together,” Hunter said. “We had some really good shots. A lot of people got to score.”
