Mandeville’s Katie Lindelow and Hannah Tracey both recorded double-doubles Thursday to help spark the Lady Skippers to a surprising 72-44 district road victory over the previously unbeaten district leading Ponchatoula Green Wave. The game was moved to Thursday to accommodate for Friday’s parade in Mandeville.

MHS (17-3) upped its district mark to 10-2, and now trails Ponchatoula (25-14) 11-1 by one game with two district contests left.

Lindelow poured in 24 points with 19 rebounds and three steals, while Tracey finished with 18 points, 10 assists and four rebounds.

MHS freshman Kali Koenig came up big for the Lady Skippers tallying 15 points with six rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Elizabeth Manuel chipped in with 13 points, three rebounds and two steals. Kelsie Sparks added two points with five rebounds and two steals.

Ponchatoula’s Robin Richardson led the Green Wave with 14 points followed by Anne James with nine, while Emily Pevey added seven.

Mandeville coach T.A. Ricks said it was a great effort by everyone on the team.

“It was a big must win for us to keep us in the district race. We hope somebody can beat Ponchatoula to give us a chance at a district title,” Ricks said.

“We haven’t been playing well in recent games, but the players ended up playing excellent team basketball to get the win. They came up big playing on the road and I was surprised by the size of the victory against a very good Ponchatoula team playing on their home court,” Ricks added.
