Slidell edges

St. Paul’s

Slidell’s Tigers got past the St. Paul’s Wolves 49-47 in a district game held Friday at the Gene Bennett Sports Complex. The Wolves had a chance to win, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer hit the front of the rim and rolled off. Slidell (20-8) was 9-1 in district at press time, while St. Paul’s (7-20) fell to 2-8.

Tevin Parker scored a game-high 22 points for Slidell, while Michael Norman tallied seven. Nicolas Abram along with William Hornsby recorded five each.

St. Paul’s Jonathan Schoen led the Wolves with 14 points, while Luke Baumgartner had 8. Derek Arnold and Marc Robertson finished with nine apiece. Arnold topped the Wolves with six rebounds, while Robertson had three rebounds with an assist. Kris Brumfield contributed four assists, two rebounds and two steals for the Wolves.

Slidell led 19-15 after the first quarter. St. Paul’s outscored Slidell 11-7 in the second period to tie things at 26-26 at the half. The nip and tuck game continued in the third quarter with St. Paul’s take a 37-36 lead entering the fourth period.

First Baptist defeats

Louisiana School for the Deaf

First Baptist Christian School’s Eagles was victorious over Louisiana School for the Deaf 71-34 in a non-district road game held Thursday. The Eagles were 13-6 at press time.

Caleb Earhart led First Baptist with 17 points, while Anthony Benasco and Trey Gardner scored 15 apiece.

    " I am curious as to why does St. Pual get so much publicity. Everyone who does anything in the game for St. Paul gets their stats in the paper. You would think they are a championship caliber team or something. Are all of the writers St. Paul Alumni? "
