Six Northshore teams advance to quarters

Soccer clubs still vying for coveted prize of a state championship

A number of Northshore boys and girls soccer teams are still in the hunt for coveted state championships as six clubs have advanced to tomorrow’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association quarterfinals.

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs (24-0-2), the No. 1 ranked and unbeaten squad, hosts the West Monroe Lady Rebels (24-6-3), the No. 9 seed.

FHS squares off with West Monroe tomorrow at the Dawg Pound beginning 3 o’clock.

The Lady Bulldogs played West Monroe earlier this season in the Mandeville Holiday Invitational taking a 1-0 victory.

Mandeville (33-2-1), the No. 3 seed, is at home facing off with the Mount Carmel Cubs (22-5), the No. 6 seed. The contest begins tomorrow night at 6 at Sidney Theriot Stadium.

MHS coach Sean Esker, who has 300+ coaching victories to his credit, helped lead Mt. Carmel to two state titles back in 2000 and 2001.

St. Scholastica Academy (11-7-1), the No. 12 seed and Division I defending state champion, looks to continue its season at home against Dominican (19-2-5), the No. 4 seed. Game time is tomorrow morning at 11.

Switching to the boys’ side of the brackets, in Division I, St. Paul’s (21-4), the No. 3 seed, is hosting Lafayette, the No. 6 seed. The quarterfinal tilt is set for 6 p.m. tomorrow at Hunter Stadium.

Fontainebleau (16-6-2), the No. 8 seed, is on the road Tuesday playing No. 1 ranked Jesuit. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Pan American Stadium.

In Division III, the Northlake Christian School Wolverines (12-10-3), the No. 8 seed, is traveling tomorrow going against the No. 1 seed, University Cubs (15-5-5). The game is set for tomorrow night at 6 o’clock being played on the campus of LSU.
