Pope John Paul II cruises past Northlake Christian School

Pope John Paul II’s Calvin Brazley scored 26 points in a 50-28 victory over the Northlake Christian School Wolverines on senior night at PJP Monday. The Jaguars (18-11) are 7-6 in district.

Matt Binder scored 14 points for PJP, while Evan Fiore tallied six and Price had four.

PJP has four seniors this season, including Fiore, Price, Kasey Carter and Luke Shields.

NCS’ Carter Fitzgerald totaled eight points, while Jacob Draffen logged six and Caleb Cherry recorded five.

NCS, which had posted a 13-14 record and 7-7 in district, was in the playoff hunt. However, according to NCS athletic director Tony Agresta, it came to light that a recent transfer student was not actually living in the school district fulltime. When Northlake Christian School learned of the player not residing fulltime in the district they called the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and informed them of that fact. The school pointed out as well the need to forfeit six wins, in which that player participated in for the Wolverines.

Agresta shared his thoughts on the transfer player.

“It’s all disappointing because the players had worked hard to win 11 of their last 17 games after a slow 2-8 start to put themselves in playoff contention. But ultimately as Christians and people who respect the rules of the LHSAA we chose to do the right thing and report the situation ourselves,” Agresta said.
