Salmen proved to be too much for Franklinton in the regular season finale Thursday night capturing an 84-62-road victory.

Salmen (23-6) captured its fifth-straight district title and finished 8-0 in league play. The Spartans open playoff action Friday night at 7 as a ninth seed by hosting No. 24 Morgan City. The winner gets the victor of No. 8 Istrouma and 25th ranked St. Louis.

Franklinton is also in the playoffs. The Demons are the 31st seed and traveling to No. 2 Bossier. The winner plays either No. 15 Neville or 18th ranked Alexandria.

The Spartans got 23 points from Jamal Robinson, and T.J. Price and Khari Price added 18 each.

The Demons fell behind early and trailed by 17 at halftime and head coach Randall Ginn said his team was not making smart fouls.

“They shot 19 free throws in the first half and we shot three. We were fouling too much,” he said. “I asked the kids this week during practice, let’s not give up easy layups, but that’s not the kind of fouls we were making.”

The Demons cut the lead to 10 with a run in the third quarter. Ginn said his team played very well during that stretch.

“It’s not an excuse, but we’ve got sophomore players all over the court playing against the defending state champions. Salmen is a (heck) of a basketball team,” Ginn said.

“Their program’s at the status where it’s hard to beat them. T.J. Price is one of the best players in the state. He’s a great basketball player.”

Ginn also said he was pleased with the production of his star guards Tyson Magee and Boomer Cotton, who scored 17 and 16, respectively.

“They’ve been doing about the same all year,” Ginn said. “We’re going to go as far as they’ll take us in the playoffs.”
