Slidell came back from a three-point deficit at the end of the third period to knot things up at 46-46 on an alley oop slam courtesy of Armand Williams, which fired up the Tigers as well as the crowd. Slidell never trailed thereafter to capture a bi-district playoff win at home Friday night, 57-48.

The Thibodaux Tigers had troubles on the boards and at the charity stripe in the final quarter, hitting on just 2-of-10 from the foul line to end its season at 23-9.

Slidell (24-9), the second-place team from District 7-5A, advances to the regional round of the prep playoffs, as they face off against top-seeded St. Augustine in New Orleans.

Junior forward Tevin Parker topped Slidell’s scoring 21 points, including a pair of treys. Parker also snatched six rebounds.

Junior guard Brennan Reynard totaled 13 as the only other SHS player in double figures. Senior forward Michael Norman had nine points and six boards before sitting out much of the second half with foul trouble. Andrew Winston garnered seven points and Nicolas Abram had a trey at the end of the third stanza for his scoring. Joseph Gayles and Williams each had a bucket to round out the scoring for the victors.

Senior center Shavon Coleman finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds leading the way for Thibodaux. Trovan Reed was the only other Thibodaux player scoring in double digits with 11.

“We played better defense in the second half and finally started to crack their zone as well by getting some points off of turnovers and rebounds,” said Slidell coach Dale Chimento. “ We are a young team and we have some guys who can shoot, and you just hope that they will fall,” added Chimento.

“Free throws and rebounds killed us in the fourth period, especially them getting second chance points,” commented Thibodaux coach Tony Clark. “We came out and went into a zone, which we don’t play often, but worked well for us tonight,” added Clark. “Anyway I told the guys I was proud of them because we had a good season.”

Senior guard Ross McMillan got things started off for Thibodaux on the opening tip with a 3-pointer, his only points of the evening. But then his Tigers went on a five-minute drought before finishing the period trailing Slidell, 17-12.
