Governor appoints two from St. Tammany to Commission on Infant Mortality

A nurse who works at St. Tammany Parish Hospital and a Covington doctor have both been appointed to the Commission of Perinatal Care and Prevention of Infant Mortality by Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Ashley Rush, a neonatal nurse from Mandeville, and Dr. Eddie Dease of Covington will serve on the 16-member commission that serves to provide a plan the state can adopt to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies, sick infants and infant mortalities.

The commission also compiles and analyzes data on current infant mortality education programs, and makes recommendations for public policy for proposed legislation on statewide programs to prevent infant mortality.

ASHLEY RUSH

Rush has been a quality care manager at STPH for the past four years.

She is also the secretary of the New Orleans Association of Healthcare Quality Managers. Rush as a master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis on healthcare system management. Rush will be representing neonatal nurses on the commission.

Dease is a physician and CEO of Correct Care Inc. in Covington.

He will be representing the private sector on the commission.

Along with Rush and Dease, the governor also appointed Dr. Rebecca Accardo of Franklin and Dr. Robert Blereau of Morgan City to the commission.
