PJP II sweeps Week 1 of Golf League

Pope John Paul II’s boys and girls captured the first week of the Northlake Golf League held Tuesday at Pinewood Country Club.

The golfers played nine holes.

Two squads competed in PJP and Pearl River. The boys’ team score was based off the top four golfers and the girls’ tally was from the top two.

In the boys, Pope John Paul II took the event with a 204 score and Pearl River finished at 231.

PJP’s Evan Fiore won the individual competition with a 46. Teammates Chandler Scheuermann and Quinn Fiore tied for second, each carding a 50.

Pearl River’s Christian Anton had a 56 and Mark Harrison shot a 57 to round out the top five of nine participants.

In the girls, PJP finished first at 113 and Pearl River combined for a 144.

Individually, PJP’s Emily Borne topped the nine-golfer field, netting a 51. Teammate Taylor Martin was runner-up with a 62, followed by Kayla Viavant at 67.

The other six golfers, including PJP’s Courtney Cavignac and Adrianna Hodge along with Pearl River’s Tiffany Hall, Kasey Johnson, Jessica Talamo and Kaitlin Soileau all tied for fourth with a 72.

The league continues Tuesday at Royal Golf Club.
