St. Paul’s falls

to Zachary

St. Paul’s fell to Zachary 7-1 Monday in a game played at Turchin Stadium on the Tulane University campus. Zachary took an early lead 5-1 in the first, and never let the Wolves back in the game. Zachary, the Class 4A defending state champions, limited the Wolves to six hits with Christian Spansel leading the way going 2-3 with a run and a stolen base. Shane Lacrouts produced the Wolves’ lone run knocking in Spansel with a single. Dane Stubbs, Tanner Rainey and John Gremillion had the other hits for the Wolves. SPS starter Christian Trent was tagged with the loss as the Wolves stand at 8-5.       

Slidell tallies 1-2 record in tourney

Slidell’s Tigers posted a 1-2 record in the John Curtis Tournament held Friday and Saturday. SHS was 7-5 at press time.

The Tigers won Friday’s game 12-11 over De La Salle.

The Cavaliers erased a 10-0 deficit by scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning. SHS tallied in the sixth, but De La Salle knotted it up once again in the seventh before the Tigers plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame.

Adam Lagarde went 3-3 with two runs batted in, while Gary Daubert singled and drove in two. Randal Meyer tripled and drove in a run. Dylan Aymond doubled and picked up an RBI. Dixon Faciane and Tré Wiebelt each had a hit and an RBI. Daubert (3-2) got the win relief.

In Saturday’s first game, Slidell lost 9-5 against Holy Cross.

Holy Cross scored six times in the sixth for the come-from-behind victory.

Cameron Charbonnet posted three hits, while Daubert totaled two hits and two RBIs. Faciane went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Wiebelt also had a hit and Aymond logged a run batted in for SHS.

Daubert suffered the loss. In the second game Saturday, the Tigers were downed 8-1 against Belle Chasse.

Charbonnet singled in Meyer during the fourth inning. Aymond, Lagarde and Meyer accounted for other Tigers’ hits.

Blake Bozant (2-1) was the losing pitcher.

St. Paul’s dropped two disappointing losses Friday night in the John Curtis Tournament. The Wolves fell to Belle Chasse 9-0 against Belle Chasse and lost to Holy Cross 4-2. The Wolves’ bats couldn’t get started in either game, scratching out only 4 total hits between the two games. The defense also struggled committing a total of six errors in the games. Dylan Hamel and John Gremillion were the starting pitchers, taking the losses. The Wolves looked for a fresh start Saturday evening against De LaSalle, winning by 10-run rule in the 6th inning, 11-1. Junior Shane Lacrouts got the win, pitching four innings. He faced only 16 batters allowing just one hit. He struck out six and walked just one.  The Wolves racked up 13 hits with Aarron Allain leading the way going 3-3 with a triple, double and single along with a walk. Allain drove in a run, scored three times and stole a base. Christian Spansel continued his powerhouse hitting, going 2-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs and scored twice. Alex Cuntz collected a double and a triple with an RBI and scored once, Keller Douglas went 2-4 with two runs batted in. Joel Spansel produced two hits, drove in a run and also stole a base. Dane Stubbs had a hit, drove in a run and scored twice. He delivered a sacrifice fly, walked and stole a base, while Gremillion picked up a hit and drove in a run.
