Abita holding Neighborhood

Watch meeting

The town of Abita Springs will have its Spring Neighborhood Watch meeting March 24 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall. Lt. Fred Escher will be there with a detailed crime report. Louis Fitzmorris and Mayor Pro Tem Sheri Campbell will also be there to answer questions.

Rep. Pearson to hold

State Rep. Kevin Pearson (R-76) will hold a town hall meeting Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Boyet Junior High School 59295 Rebel Drive, Slidell.

Slidell Police Citizen Academy accepting applications

The second class of the Slidell Police Citizen Academy will start April 28, and the Slidell Police Department is accepting applications for the two-month academy. Those accepted will learn the functions of the SPD and also be able to ride along with a patrol officer to see what it is like being a police officer.

Applicants must be 19 years or older and have no felony convictions. A background check will be conducted. Classes will start April 28. Classes will be held Wednesdays from 7-10 p.m. Class space is limited. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at SPD headquarters, 2112 Sgt. Alfred Drive (Third Street).
