CHS trims NHS

in extra innings

Covington’s Rachel Smith tossed a two-hitter and struck out 12 to help lead the Lady Lions to a thrilling 2-1 nine-inning victory over the Northshore Lady Panthers at home on Tuesday.

Smith (8-6) upped her district record to 4-1.

CHS’ Haley Spell drove in the Lady Lions’ game-winner knocking in pinch runner Tiffany Warren on a fielder’s choice with one out in the ninth and the bases loaded. CHS’ Kelsie Gassen went 2-4 with a double and drove in a run in the first inning. Megan Daughdrill also collected two hits including a double in the fourth, while Shai Thompson delivered two hits for the Lady Lions.  

Kristin Gekler was the losing pitcher. She went the distance allowing eight hits with four strikeouts.

Fontainebleau downs Slidell

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs defeated the Slidell Lady Tigers 6-1 in a district game held Tuesday at SHS. FHS (11-4) was 4-1 in district at press time, while Slidell (10-9-1) slipped to 3-2.

Amanda Lassus went 2-3 for the Lady Bulldogs with a triple, two runs batted in and a stolen base. Jennifer Tuohy tallied two singles and a pair of runs batted in.

FHS’ Kendyl Stevenson (6-3) posted the victory going two innings in relief working out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth. Freshman Megan Meyer held Slidell scoreless for three innings giving up four hits, while Christina Guy pitched two-plus innings. Guy retired the Lady Tigers in order in the fourth and fifth innings before running into trouble in the sixth being replaced by Stevenson.

For Slidell, Sierra Ducre singled and doubled, while Ellie Gonsoulin posted two hits. Kayleigh Petrolia added a hit and had an RBI. Breanne Rainey (10-9-1), who suffered the loss, struck out two.

Hannan blanks St. Martin’s Episcopal

Archibishop Hannan’s Maddi Shelton tossed a complete-game one-hitter as the Lady Hawks blanked St. Martin’s Episcopal 6-0 Tuesday at home. Shelton (7-2) struck out 14 batters and didn’t walk anyone in her masterpiece. The only hit she allowed was to the opposing pitcher freshman Mychael Truxillo, who laced a single up the middle for the Saints. Truxillo worked the count to 2-2 and fouled off three pitches before ripping her single. Hannan’s Kimberly Nilsson went 2-3, drove in a run and scored once. Brooke Laigast collected two hits in four trips, scored two runs and stole a base for the Lady Hawks. Dallas Hebert produced two hits and stole a base, while Kim Kirsch had a hit and drove in a run. Hannan (15-3) tallied two runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

Pearl River

falls to Cabrini

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels were defeated 2-0 by Cabrini in a district home game held Tuesday. PRHS was 3-2 in district at press time.

Katie Hebert suffered the loss. She threw a complete-game one hitter, allowing no earned runs with four strikeouts and four walks.

Abby Maillet and Shayna Pippen accounted for the Lady Rebels hits.

Archbishop Hannan blanked by Dominican

Archbishop Hannan fell to Dominican 4-0 at home on Monday. Hannan’s Dallas Hebert (8-1) suffered her first loss scattering four hits allowing four runs (one earned). Kim Kirsch, Brooke Laigast and Kimberly Nilsson were the only Lady Hawks’ batters to collect a hit.

Doves’ McDaniel spins no-hitter

St. Scholastica Academy defeated Northlake Christian School 13-1 in the SSA Spring Classic XI. SSA’s Kristen McDaniel earned the victory tossing a four-hitter. McDaniel also went 2-2 and drove in two runs in the victory. Amanda Krausse drove in a run and scored once for the Doves. Devin Hyver and Madeline Kliebert both had one hit and drove in a run, Allison Dastugue had a hit and scored a run.

SSA tallied three runs in the first, one in the third and eight in the fourth to secure the victory in the five- inning game. SSA’s McDaniel spun a no-hitter in the Doves’ second tournament game taking a 3-0 victory over South Plaquemines.

McDaniel also helped herself at the plate producing a hit and driving in a run. Kristi Harrison had a hit and drove in a run, while Emily Serpas had a hit and scored once.

SSA scored three runs in the top of the fourth to gain the victory.                                          

SSA dropped its final game falling to Chalmette 6-0. McDaniel (5-7) was tagged with the loss, while scattering five hits. The Doves were limited to just three hits by Dastugue, Harrison and Serpas. Chalmette scored two runs in the first and added four runs in the fourth.

PRHS goes 2-1

in Spring Classic

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels tallied a 2-1 mark, while Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars were 2-2 Slidell’s Lady Tigers went 1-3 record in the SSA Spring Classic XI held Friday and Saturday.

Pearl River’s first game was a 16-0-three inning victory over Northlake Christian School.

Katie Hebert threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk. At the plate, she went 2-2. Abby Maillet along with Katie Wallace finished with two-hits each.

The Lady Rebels played two games on Saturday. They lost the first one to Slidell 6-1.

Slidell’s Alex Faciane and Tori Gough both had two hits, including a double. Gough also drove in two runs. Carter singled, walked and scored twice.

Breanne Rainey was the winning pitcher and struck out seven.

Pearl River’s Heather Polk singled twice. Maillet suffered the loss and struck out two.

In Saturday’s final game, PRHS blanked St. Thomas Aquinas 6-0.

Hebert was strong once again, surrendering two hits, while striking out 11 and walking two. She also helped her cause with the bat, going 2-3 with a home run and a double. Walker had a hit and an RBI, while Kaycie Creel also tallied one hit.

Pope John Paul II lost both games on Friday, beginning with a 1-0 setback to Mandeville.

Gabby McDaniel got the win, while Laura Ricciardone suffered the loss. Both struck out six.

Brittany Bush went 1-3 for the Lady Skippers, while Ricciardone had PJP’s lone hit.

The second game was also a 1-0 loss against South Plaquemines.

PJP had just one hit, again by Ricciardone.

She was also the losing pitcher despite striking out 13.

On Saturday, PJP began by topping Fontainebleau 1-0.

Ricciardone was the winning pitcher. Michelle Diaz went 1-2 with an RBI.

PJP finished by beating Dominican 2-1.

Brianna Jeansonne and Nicole Saucier tallied one hit apiece, accounting for the Lady Jaguars’ knocks.

Ricciardone was the winning pitcher.

Slidell went 1-3 in the event.

In Friday’s first game, the Lady Tigers suffered an 8-7 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas using the International tie-breaker. Slidell scored five times in the fifth inning to force the extra frame. Faciane had three hits and two runs batted in, while Mel Carter singled twice and walked once.

Ali Jung suffered the loss and struck out eight.

In the second game, SHS lost 1-0 to Dominican.

Breanne Rainey, the losing pitcher, posted three strikeouts. SHS recorded three singles by Carter, Faciane and Jung.

Saturday’s first game was the victory over Pearl River.

In their final game Saturday, the Lady Tigers were edged 2-1 by Belle Chasse using the International tie-breaker.

SHS had two hits, Faciane’s triple and Gough’s double. Jung was the hard-luck losing pitcher.

Hannan goes 2-1 in tourney

 

Archbishop Hannan finished the Delcambre Tournament with a 2-1 record. The Lady Hawks blanked Vermillion Catholic 10-0 Friday behind Maddi Shelton’s two-hitter. She struck out 11 and walked only one. Hannan pounded out 15 hits in the 10-run led by Sydney Finch, who went 3-3 with a double and drove in three runs. Dallas Hebert, Kim Kirsch and Kimberly Nilsson collected two hits each, while driving in one run apiece and scored once.

Hannan defeated the host Delcambre club 6-1 Saturday. Hebert started and went the distance upping her record to 8-0. She tossed a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks. The Lady Hawks picked up nine hits led by Hebert who had a double and drove in three runs. Natalie Powell produced two hits. Hannan dropped their final game being edged by North Vermillion 5-3.

Shelton (6-2) pitched a complete game allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits. She struck out six and didn’t walk anyone. Nilsson had a hit for the Lady Hawks and drove in two runs, while Hebert had a hit and scored once.
