Northshore falls to Destrehan

Northshore’s Panthers suffered their fifth-straight loss in a 12-7 setback against Destrehan Tuesday at Ned Eades Field. Northshore was 9-5 at press time.

The Wildcats scored 11-sixth inning runs after trailing 3-1.

Breck Kline homered and drove in three, while Ryan Eades singled, doubled and tallied three RBIs. Chase Compton singled and posted an RBI. Trey Rickrode and Chris Eades accounted for the other Panthers’ hits.

Kline (1-1) got the loss in relief.

Pope John Paul II downs Hannan

Pope John Paul II’s Andre Damiens belted a three-run homer in bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday at home to spark the Jaguars to a 6-3 victory over the Archbishop Hannan Hawks. PJP recovered from a three-run deficit in the top of the first to tally five runs in the fifth aided by Damiens’ blast. The Jaguars closed out the scoring with a single run in the sixth. Blake Bonnaffons had two doubles, drove in two runs and scored once, while Dustin Dampier went 2-3 and scored once for the Jaguars. Kyle Salsbury doubled and scored, while Matt Navarro had a hit and tallied. PJP II starter Tim Turner (1-2) went the distance to record the victory. He allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts, two walks and he hit two batters. Hannan’s Dylan Manichia went 2-4, while Joey LaRocca had a triple and drove in a run. Hannan starter Christian Clark (2-1) pitched four and a third innings and took the loss. PJP stands at 2-8, while Hannan slipped to 8-7.

Northshore 0-4

in tournament

Northshore’s Panthers lost all four games in the Denham Springs Tournament held last Thursday-Saturday.

The Panthers opened with a 2-1 loss against Catholic.

Ryan Eades homered for Northshore’s lone run. Trey Rickrode had the other hit.

Chase Compton (1-1) tossed a complete game allowing four hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks.

On Friday, NHS suffered a 4-1 setback to Lafayette.

Kyle Deckwa’s fourth-inning homer accounted for the Panthers’ tally. Northshore was once again limited to two hits, the other being a Compton double.

A.J. Garza (0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief of Ryan LeBlanc.

In Saturday’s first game, Northshore suffered a 17-3 loss to Nova, a team out of Davie, Fla. that was 10-0 at press time.

Chris Eades posted two hits and an RBI, while Jake DiCarlo singled and drove in a run. Breck Kline, Jacob Corbin and Shane McKinley all tallied two hits for the Panthers. Compton and Brad Haley both singled.

Deckwa (1-1) was the losing pitcher.

The Panthers ended the event with a 10-5 loss against the host school.

Kline went 4-4 with an RBI, while Chris Eades tallied two hits and a run. Rickrode posted a hit and an RBI.

Corbin (4-1) was the losing pitcher.

Pearl River

1-2 in tourney

Pearl River’s Rebels went 1-2 in the Doyle Tournament held Thursday and Saturday.

On Thursday, PRHS defeated French Settlement 10-0 in five innings. Pearl River is 6-5.

Winning pitcher Michael Beloso (1-1) threw the entire game and did the job at the plate. He allowed two hits, while striking out six and walking three. He also posted a triple and two RBIs. Beau Crawford doubled, scored, produced a sacrifice fly and drove in four runs. Brad Huff doubled and drove a run. Andro posted a hit, an RBI and scored twice, while Jeremiah Eisenhart was 1-3 with two runs scored. Ryan Laughlin logged a hit.

In Saturday’s first game, Pearl River suffered a 7-3 loss to Doyle.

PRHS had just three hits. Cutura had two of them, one was a triple and he drove in two runs. Beloso had the other and drove in a run.

Adam Vignes (1-1) was the losing pitcher.

In the second contest, the Rebels lost to Maurepas 6-3.

Pearl River had just one hit, which was by Eisenhart.

Brad Huff (1-1) was the losing pitcher.

Hannan goes 2-1 in tournament

Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks completed a stunning come back in the bottom of the sixth inning tallying six runs in their final at bat to defeat Vermillion Catholic 11-10 as the game ended due to time limit in the Abbeville Tournament.

Andrew Arceneaux had a hit and drove in two runs for the Hawks, while Stuart Seiler collected a double, drove in a run and scored twice. Logan Booksh went 2-2 and scored two runs for the Hawks.

Hannan’s Dylan Manichia knocked in Seiler to pull the Hawks within one. Following as strike out for the second out Joey LaRocca then hit a hard ground ball up the middle that bounced off the pitcher’s ankle. Booksh scored and Arceneaux hustled in to score the winning run.

Hawks’ freshman Rhett Hickman, who pitched the sixth, earned the victory. Vermillion Catholic’s Jacob Broussard went 3-4 with two runs batted in, while Andrew Hutherford collected a hit and drove in two runs.

In game 2, Hannan came up short falling to Kaplan High 10-3 as the Hawks committed six errors. Seiler (2-2) took the loss. Seiler went 2-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Booksh also had two hits for the Hawks. Kaplan’s D.J. Faulk went 3-4 with a homer and a double and drove in two runs.

Hannan closed out tournament play cruising past Delcambre 19-4 with Manichia starring at the plate going 3-5 with two doubles and a triple and drove in five runs batted in. Manichia (1-2) also picked up the victory on the mound.

Michael Hess went 2-2 with three runs batted in, while Christian Clark had two hits, drove in two runs and scored three times. Hannan (8-6) trailed 1-0 after the first inning and tied it with a run in the second inning before pushing across 12 runs in the third.
