No 'right' answer to Middle East mess

Lasting peace between rival religions is not going to happen. Period.

And while world politicians try to ignore what has been evident for thousands of years, religious murder goes on . . . and on . . . and on, all over the globe.

The latest chapter playing out to no conclusion is Israel vs. Palestine. And wouldn’t you know, Washington, D. C. is smack dab in the middle of that muddle, too? Right now, it’s Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel against, guess who? Barrack Obama. And Hillary Clinton. And Joe Biden. And who is caught in the middle of this senseless mess? Poor old George Mitchell, the United States’ designated peacemaker for the Middle East.

The new uproar took place last week when Veep Joe took a trip to Israel, reputedly part of the overall Obama foreign policy to bring the Israelis and the Palestinians back to the peace table.

But in a political blunder, Israeli Prime MInister Netanyahu’s folks announce that Israel is going to build 1,600 new houses in East Jerusalem, the contested spot on the world stage between Israel and Palestine.

That, Benjamin, was a boo-boo, especially since our man Joe was visiting your country. Bad timing, Ben.

Hillary and Obama followed up with trash talk about Israel, our main ally in the Middle East. They demanded that Netanyahu stop building the houses. Ben said mind your own business. Hillary, Obama and Biden did not appreciate the reply.

In the meantime the Israelis and Palestinians continue to kill one another and, as things go, probably always will.

We can hope, of course, that eventually things will cool down as they did in Northern Ireland when the Catholics and Protestants decided to put religious murder on hold, at least for a while.

There are huge issues involved surrounding Israel and Palestine. We need for Israel to be on our side if there is to be any faint hope for stability in the Middle East.

And even in the midst of all this trash talk by the White House, Israel will remain a staunch United States ally. Why? Because there is no alternative.

At the same time, it goes without saying that the nation of Israel does like to be bullied around by America and told where and when it can build houses.

Iran keeps building its nuclear weapons, threatening Israel and proclaiming Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth. The United States, the United Nations and everybody else except Russia and China sit around in looney land doing nothing to stop Iran from continuing its quest for nuclear weapons.

But they worry also that Israel’s Netanyahu, no dove by any means, will pull the trigger on his own against Iran, setting off a Middle East all-out war.

So there we have it.

Nobody has the right answer; because there is no “right” answer.

Religious zealots will keep on keeping on, killing at will, even killing themselves for the “honor” of it all.

In the meantime, I continue to be angered at my country bullying a strategic ally

There are some things Obamaeloquence cannot solve.
