Setting a great example

Our View

This week, there was another award that shows the St. Tammany Public School System is far and above the rest of the state. Mandeville Junior High School student, Aaron Reed was selected as the state’s student of the year for sixth through eighth grades.

This eighth-grader is quite an accomplished young man. He is an accomplished musician and athlete. He plays in both his school’s jazz and marching bands, plus he takes music courses at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. When not playing music, Reed also plays baseball and golf. He is on the school’s student council, and belongs to the Honor Society, and the Builders Club. If that doesn’t make you pant for breath, Aaron Reed does all of this and still maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

It is truly inspiring to see such a young person so focused and determined to succeed.

Whatever he decides to do with his life, we are sure Aaron will be a great success. He said he wants a career where, “I get gratification and a sense of pride from my work.” Let that be a shining example for not only his fellow students but also for adults everywhere.
