Slidell trims Mandeville

Slidell’s Lady Tigers edged the Mandeville Lady Skippers 5-3 in nine innings Thursday with Breanne Rainey registering the road victory with four strikeouts.

SHS (13-10-1) moved to 6-3 in district play, while MHS (16-10) slipped to 5-4. SHS’ Alex Faciane went 4-4 and knocked in a run, while Mel Carter went 3-5 with three runs batted in. The game was tied 2-2 entering the top of the ninth.

Tori Gough walked to open the ninth and Faciane plated her with a double. Carter followed with an RBI single knocking in Faciane to make it 4-2. Ellie Gonsoulin followed with a run producing double, which scored Carter to put the Lady Tigers up 5-2. MHS’ Paige Dupuy singled in the ninth and eventually scored on Kali Koenig’s single to close out the scoring. MHS’ Gabby McDaniel (14-10) took the loss going the distance.

McDaniel allowed two earned runs, while giving up eight hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. McDaniel knocked in the Lady Skippers’ first run with a triple in the first inning scoring Brittany Bush, who led off with a single. Bush collected two hits for MHS and drove in a run. Brooke Matherne and Savannah Perry produced doubles for Mandeville.

Ponchatoula

tops Covington

Ponchatoula’s Lady Green Wave knocked the Covington Lady Lions out of a first place tie Thursday downing the Lady Lions 6-3 in the district game played at CHS. Covington (11-7), 7-2 in district, was limited to just two hits both singles by Megan Daughdrill and Kelsie Gassen.

Rachel Smith suffered the loss allowing six runs (four unearned), while striking out eight and walking four. The CHS defense committed five errors and 12 Lady Lions went down on strikes.

SSA rolls past Hammond

St. Scholastica Academy eased past the Hammond Lady Tornadoes 13-5 Thursday on the road in district play. SSA’s Kristen McDaniel (6-12) posted the victory giving up three hits, while registering eight strikeouts. McDaniel also excelled at the plate for the Doves going 3-4 with four runs batted in and scored once. Allison Dastugue went 3-3 with two runs batted in and scored three times, while Alexandra Hontas had two hits and tallied two runs. Madeline Kliebert contributed a hit and knocked in a run for the Doves, which moved to 2-7 in district play. SSA led 6-1 after three innings before tallying three runs in the fourth and four more in the seventh. Hammond came back with four runs of its own in the Lady Tors’ final at bat.

Salmen falls

to Cabrini

Salmen’s Lady Spartans suffered an 11-1-five inning loss to Cabrini in a district home game held Thursday. Erika Ybarzabal went 2-3, while Bria Brown collected a hit and scored.

PJP II tops French Settlement

Pope John Paul II’s Laura Ricciardone hit two home runs and drove in three, helping the Jaguars defeat French Settlement 4-2 in a district home game Thursday. PJP (12-7) was 4-1 in district at press time.

Kris Prinz accounted for the Lady Jaguars’ other run with an RBI ground out.

Ricciardone got the win. She allowed two runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts and just one walk.

Hannan edged

by St. Charles

Archbishop Hannan’s Lady Hawks came up short Thursday on the road dropping a 4-3 contest to the St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets in Laplace.

At press time, Hannan stood at 17-6, heading into yesterday’s road game with Pearl River. Maddi Shelton (7-4) pitched a complete game and suffered the loss allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits. The Lady Hawks’ defense committed four errors. Shelton posted three strikeouts with two walks.

Hannan’s Kimberly Nilsson went 2-3 with a run batted in and scored once. Dallas Hebert collected a hit and drove in a run for the Lady Hawks, while Victoria St. Philip picked up the other hit.

Hannan pushed across a run in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead, but St. Charles Catholic came back with two runs in their final at bat to grab the one-run victory.  Girls
