The Mystick Krewe of Perseus Slidell Carnival Club is sponsoring its second annual Golf Tournament Saturday at Royal Golf Club in Slidell. The entry fee is $65 per person with a gift being given at registration. The putting contest starts at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 11 and a four-person scramble, which begins at noon.

VIA Summer Camps
The Volleyball Institute of America is offering two-six day training sessions and a one-week camp at Northlake Christian School for those ages 10-17.
The first training sessions occur every Friday and Saturday beginning this week and going to July 3. On Fridays, 10-13s go from 6-7:30 p.m., while 14-17s follow 7:30-9.
On Saturdays, 10-13s take part from 1-2:30 p.m. and 14-17s go 2:30-4. The second training session is every Tuesday and Thursday from July 6-22. Those 10-13 attend 6-7:30 p.m. and 14-17s are there 7:30-9.
The cost is $85 for six sessions, $140 for 12, which includes a T-shirt. Drop-ins are $15, but you must buy a T-shirt that costs $10 the first time.
The summer camp runs July 26-30. The times are 6:30-8 p.m. for 10-13s and 8-9:30 for 14-17s.

NCS Baseball Camp upcoming
Back-to-back baseball state champion Northlake Christian School is holding a baseball camp June 28-July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for boys age 6-12. The fee is $165 per person, which includes a T-shirt and lunch.
The camp features fundamental work, daily games and guest speakers including former LSU player and now Texas Rangers’ minor-leaguer Michael Hollander, who is from Mandeville.

Pearl River Roller Derby
The Pearl River Roller Derby team Swamp Dolls is accepting new members. Females 18-older are eligible to sign up. You must have your own gear, helmet, elbow and kneepads along with a wrist and mouth guard. Quad skates are available for rent at some practices. You must be available for practice twice per week. The group plays teams from all over the south region. The next home bout is June 26 at the Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell at 7 p.m. Also referee and support staff is still needed. Greater Slidell Golf Championship
The 32nd annual Greater Slidell Golf Championship 2010 takes place June 25-27 at the three Slidell golf courses at $100 a person. The championship flight rotation is Royal Golf Club, Oak Harbor Golf Club followed by Pinewood Country Club. The other flights, courses and tee-times are being determined following the 5 p.m. June 22 entry deadline. The first tee time is approximately 9 a.m. each day. To play, you must be a resident in the greater Slidell area or a member of Oak Harbor, Pinewood or Royal. There is a separate division for seniors, 50-older. Awards are presented at the course you play Sunday’s round. Practice rounds are available Tuesday-Thursday that week at the courses for $10 plus cart. Oak Harbor is after 11 a.m. Call for tee times. Cross Gates soccer camp

Hornets’ 2010 basketball camps
The New Orleans Hornets are holding several basketball camps around the state through August. The schedule includes two-day camps and an overnight clinic with Hornets’ guard and former LSU player Marcus Thornton. His first clinic runs tomorrow-Friday at Pelican Park’s Brown Gym. It runs 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow-Thursday and 9-noon Friday for $275 per camper. Thornton’s also got an overnight clinic at UNO’s Health and P.E Building June 20-24 at $480 for overnighters and $375 for commuters. Thornton’s final clinic occurs June 30-July 2 at Baton Rouge Community College from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at $180. Thornton will only be at these three camps. The Hornets are hosting seven camps at $225 per participant. The weekly times are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. The camp comes to St. Tammany Parish July 26-30 at Fritchie Park in Slidell. That week, they’re also at Comeaux Recreation in Lafayette. From June 28-July 2, the clinic is at Southeastern Louisiana University before going to Dillard University in New Orleans July 5-9. It concludes at Jewish Community Center in Uptown New Orleans Aug. 2-6. All are open to ages 7-16. Each participant receives a free 2010-11 game ticket, camp T-shirt, headband, basketball, jersey drawstring bag and instruction. High school football combines
Two high school football combines occur this summer at St John Plaquemine High School and Westminster Academy. The one at St. John is June 26, while the one at Westminster Academy, located in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area, takes place July 17. The cost is $80 online and $100 to register the day of the event. Also, there is a team discount. If a squad comes with more than six players the price is $60 per student athlete. The combine consists of various drills, including pro agility shuttle, 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, height and weight. Save Our Lake & Coast Fishing Rodeo
The 14th annual Save Our Lake & Coast Fishing Rodeo occurs Aug. 7-8. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children under 16. Each ticket includes one entry to the Rodeo and the Awards Party, a one-year membership to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and a Rodeo T-shirt. Participants are welcome to fish anywhere in the Pontchartrain Basin, including Lakes Pontchartrain, Maurepas, St. Catherine and Borgne, Breton Sound and surrounding bayous, rivers and tributaries. Participants are eligible to compete for various awards. Weigh-in times are that Saturday noon-4 and Sunday noon-3. The awards’ party is 2 p.m. Sunday. Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
