Kehoe-France Northshore Blast swimmer Colin Babcock won five events to go with a second-place finish in the Crescent City Swim Club Last Chance Long Course Meet June 26-27 at the UNO Lakefront Arena Pool.

Babcock, who graduated from St. Paul’s in May and will be attending Notre Dame in the fall, took home the crown in the 400-meter freestyle (4:33), 100-breaststroke (1:15), 200-butterfly (2:20), 200-individual medley (2:19) and the 400-IM (4:52). As if that wasn’t enough, he also finished runner-up for the 200-breast (2:43).

The meet was a final chance for swimmers, who had already qualified for state to improve their time or make a new state time. The state meet occurs July 15-18 at UNO. This weekend, there is a district meet at Crawfish Aquatics in Baton Rouge and it’s the final chance for anyone who has not qualified for state to make it. All event winners get to state.

Babcock was coming off a knee injury and said he viewed the meet more as a workout. He said his focus was on finishing the races. Babcock said he’s ready for the state event.

“I’m training for it and hoping my knee holds out,” Babcock said.

His accomplishments helped the Blast to a second-place finish with 683 points. Crescent City Swim Club won the meet with 748 points.

Two other St. Tammany Parish teams participated, including Fins Swim Club out of Franco’s Athletic Club in Mandeville and the Hurricane Swim Club, located in Slidell.

Fins took fourth (98.5), while the Hurricanes (43) were sixth.

Crew Unattached (100) was third and the Cajun Clippers Swim Team (52) rounded out the top five of 10 teams competing.
