The Louisiana Knights 17/18s finished the summer going 2-1 in the West Florida Showcase Tournament, which was shortened by rainouts. The club registered a 18-17-1 overall record.

La. Knights 18s conclude its successful summer
The Louisiana Knights 18s closed out their summer season over the weekend participating in the West Florida Showcase Tournament held in Pensacola at the University of West Florida. The Knights 18s posted a 3-0 record and were the top seed, but the final two games of the tournament were rained out.

Coach Payton makes book-signing debut
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, the author of “Home Team” made a guest book signing appearance Monday evening at the Mandeville Barnes & Noble Booksellers store. The enthusiastic and beloved fan base crammed into the store to get the Super Bowl champion author’s autograph. In the book, coach Payton describes the team’s Super Bowl victory, which raised the city’s spirits for years after Hurricane Katrina.

Covington Tribe captures World Series crown
The Covington Tribe captured the United States Specialty Sports Association 13 year-old World Series held at Cypress Mounds in Baton Rouge. The Tribe went 4-1 in bracket play to win the series with Holden Harwell being named the tournament MVP. Harwell recorded 2 wins on the mound and hit .567 with 2 home runs and knocked in 8 runs.

The Madisonville Rangers captured the 11-12 year-old championship in the end of season tournament held at the Coquille Sports Complex back in June. The Rangers finished the regular season with a 10-4 record and swept through the playoffs going 4-0 to take the title. The Rangers were paced by outstanding pitching performances by Collin Gallardo, Stephen Hammond and Tyler Reynolds. The trio combined to give up only 6 runs in the four victories, while registering 26 strikeouts. Christopher Damare’, Remy Hester, Bryce Lauga and Zach Nunez led the hitting attack with 19 hits and 12 runs scored during the tournament. The Rangers played solid defense throughout the playoffs spearheaded by Cole Anderson, Joshua Guillot, Jack Lancaster and Chase Morello, who kept the opponents off the base paths to take the pressure off of the team. Coach Freddy Nunez said it was a total team effort that enabled the Rangers to take the championship.
