A Hammond area man who was found guilty of armed robbery last month was sentenced last week to 40 years in jail.

After hearing testimony for two weeks, a 12-person jury found Gregory Reaux, 29, guilty of three counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery on July 30.

On Thursday, District Judge Reginald Badeaux sentenced him to 10 years on each count and stated that the sentences would have to be served consecutively for a total of 40 years.

REAUX

He faced up to 99 years for each armed robbery count and half of that for the attempted armed robbery. Reaux was captured by St. Tammany Parish deputies outside the Mandeville Game Stop store in April 2009.

The deputies were waiting for a man who matched Reaux description who had robbed at least three other Game Stop stores in St. Tammany Parish.

At the time of the arrest, Capt. George Bonnett, spokesman for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Reaux was apprehended outside the Mandeville store after he appeared to be acting suspiciously and upon being approached, fled to the rear of the store discarding what was later discovered to be a box cutter. He was also found to be in possession of a black mesh bag. A black mesh bag and a box cutter were used in the previous robberies.
