Lady Eagles’ junior outside hitter Sara Jones, battling a cold, led her club with eight kills.
“I think that all teams have their issues, but I think we worked through them well,” Jones said. “Talking it up together, working as a team, calling the ball and getting good-solid hits. I think we did pretty well for our first match.”

“She’s usually on target and our toughest player,” Earhart said. “She knows how to think volleyball, she knows how to place it and that’s what makes her a really good player.”
First Baptist got off to a good start by scoring the first five points of the opening game, forcing Lutheran to call a timeout.
The Lady Gryphons trimmed it to 6-3, but the Lady Eagles put up 10 straight, highlighted by a Jones kill and Lauren Gaudin had a stretch of serving three-consecutive aces.
From there, First Baptist coasted to a 25-9 victory to go up by a game.
The second game was all First Baptist.
With things tied 1-1, FBCS tallied six-straight points to take a commanding 7-1 lead and force Lutheran to call time. Madison Jones had an ace, which at the time, made it 3-1.
After the Lady Gryphons cut the deficit to 7-2, First Baptist added six more and it was 13-2. The spurt ended on a foot fault.
The teams played even for the next four points, as it was 15-4. The Lady Eagles closed the contest with 10-consecutive as Sarah Petty had a kill during the run and FBCS won 25-4.
The third game was the most competitive. Lutheran had a 2-0 edge before First Baptist tied things at 2-2.
It turned into a seesaw battle, as it was knotted 4-4.
Later, with FBCS up 8-6, the Lady Eagles began to gain control, posting the nine points and they had a 17-6 advantage.
A serve out of bounds put the score at 17-7.
Lutheran continued to battle, as the Lady Gryphons used a 6-2 run to make it 19-12. Alexa Heltz’s ace capped the spurt.
After that, FBCS closed the match by scoring six-of-seven.
FBCS’ Sarah Petty logged six kills, while Hannah Jones had three aces.
Lutheran’s Alicia Gobert finished with two kills.
