T-Ball and soccer registration

The West St. Tammany YMCA is late accepting late signups for spring T-Ball until Monday and soccer through Thursday for boys and girls ages 3-6. T-Ball games are start Wednesday and go until Oct. 20. Soccer matches are every Saturday Sept. 11 to Oct. 23. For more information, call 893-9622 or visit ymcaneworleans.org.

Klein Golf Tournament

The golf tournament scheduled for Aug. 28 to benefit Katee Klein, a 24-year old mom, who is being treated for a brain tumor, has been rescheduled for Sept. 11 at Pinewood Golf Club. The event was postponed due to rain. Registration begins at noon with a putting contest at 12:30 for $5 per person. The four-person scramble starts at 1:30. The cost is $80, which includes green fee with a cart, sandwiches at noon, beverages throughout the event, dinner afterwards and door prizes. There is also a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. St. Tammany Library Fundraiser

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, the St. Tammany Parish Library is holding a golf tournament and a free library festival called “Fore! Our Library” Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Abita Springs Golf Club. The four-man scramble will start at 1 p.m. at $400 a team or $100 per golfer. Teams may register at either the library or golf course. The event features children’s activities and special guests. Also, they will have the Saints’ Experience (interactive inflatables) and other things for children. There will be a sky diving performance by tournament sponsor Golf Coast Sky Diving. J. Michael Veron will be signing his golf books at the club from 11-12:30. VIA Fall Training

The Volleyball Institute of America is holding its annual Fall Training Program for those 7-14. The training runs for seven weeks, beginning Sept. 12. The dates are Sept. 12, 19, 26 along with Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24. The times are noon-1:30 for ages 7-10, 2-3:30 p.m. for 11-12s and 4-5:30 p.m. for those 13-14. The final day includes tryouts for the 2010-2011 Club Season. Register by mailing the completed form, found at www.louisianavolleyball.net. Northshore Cheer Clinics

The Northshore Cheer Clinics take place Sept. 14 and 16. The first one runs from 4-6 p.m. for kindergarten-third graders at Cypress Cove Elementary Gym. The cost is $20 if you pay by today and $25 at the door. The second occurs 3-6 p.m. at Little Oak Middle’s Gym for grades 4-6. It’s $25 if paid by today and $30 at the door. Make checks payable to NHS Cheer. Participants will learn cheers, jumps and prepare for a third-quarter performance in NHS’ home game Sept. 17 against Pearl River. Knights of Columbus golf tournament

The Knights of Columbus Assembly 1635 out of Slidell is hosting their second annual golf tournament at Oak Harbor Golf Club Sept. 17 with a noon shotgun start. The event is open to the public and is a four-person scramble. The cost is $100 per player. Hole sponsorships are $100 or if you pay $500, you get a hole sign and four players. Other events are a hole-in-one contest for a truck or car on fifth and 15th hole, longest drive, longest putt and closest-to-the-hole. Tournament proceeds are for Military Personnel Home on Leave and local ROTC groups. Tour de Tangipahoa occurs next month

The Kiwanis Club of Hammond invites cyclists to participate 19th annual Tour de Tangipahoa Sept 18. The race features a 30 and 60-mile ride. Cyclists will pedal along protected, hard-surfaced roads through the heart of Tangipahoa Parish. Check-in is scheduled for 6 a.m. between the University Center and Alumni Center at Southeastern Louisiana University. The 60-mile race begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 30-miler starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $30 prior to Sept. 11 and $35 after. A free tee shirt will be given to participants.  Refreshments, including sports juice, fruit, candy and water will be provided at rest stops along the route and there is a free lunch at the end. Police escorts, SAG wagons and mechanical assistance are being provided. Lads and Lassies Couples Tournament

The third annual Lads and Lassies Couples occurs Sept. 18-19 at the Natchitoches Country Club with shotgun starts set for 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The event features an 18-hole scramble each day. The cost is $200 per team or $100 a person. The tournament will have cash prizes, a longest drive and closest to the pin contests both days. Lunch is included for each day and that Saturday night there will be dinner and a dance. Lads and Lassies shirts are available for $30 each, but you must place those orders two weeks in advance. Wake Up Race

 

The 13th annual Great Wake Up Race occurs at 8 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Trailhead Pavilion in Abita Springs with registration starting at 7. Pre-registration for the 5K, one-mile walk/run is $12 for adults and $10 for children 17-under and includes a T-shirt. Pre-registration without the shirt costs $8 for adults and $6 for youth. Young Auxiliary of Southeast Louisiana Hospital “wake up the public” to the needs and challenges of people with mental illness.  The main fundraising objective of this year’s race is to create, restore and maintain sports and recreational facilities on the hospital grounds to encourage physical health and outdoor activity. Special Olympics Equestrian Games

New Heights Therapeutic Riding and Leah Farms presents the Special Olympics Florida Parishes Equestrian Invitational October 2 at Leah Farms in Folsom with the opening ceremony set for 9 a.m. Classes are being held on several levels and include English Equitation, Western Equitation and Working Trail in both English and western tack. The closing ceremony follows the classes. Many adult and teen volunteers are needed for set-up and registration Oct. 1 and the event Oct. 2 to serve as buddies for the riders, barn supervision, first aid and grounds crews. Pig Pen Golf Tournament in memory of Joe McMahan

The 21st annual Pig Pen Golf Tournament occurs Oct. 11 at Royal Golf Club with a noon shotgun start. This year’s event is in memory of Joe McMahan Sr., who had a lifetime involvement with law enforcement. Profits from the tournament are being donated to the Slidell Police Association’s Officer in Need Fund. The four-man scramble uses full handicaps and costs $65 per person, which includes green fee, cart fee, range balls, lunch, drinks, a ditty bag and afterward, door prizes. There will also be on-course prizes, place winners and after play, a 50/50 raffle. Participants will have an opportunity to win a car with a hole-in-one on a certain hole. The event is open to any golfer and non-law enforcement are encouraged to participate. The deadline is Oct. 9. St. Luke Golf Tournament

The 15th annual St. Luke Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament takes place Oct. 29 at Oak Harbor Golf Club in Slidell. The cost for the four-man scramble is $85 per participant, which includes the green fee with cart, food and beverages, the Closest to the Hole Contest, Longest Drive Contest along with a long-sleeve T-shirt. There will also be door prizes and diddy bags along with a free putting contest. Sponsorships are available for $100 a hole. Keep Slidell Beautiful Golf Tournament

The second annual Keep Slidell Beautiful Golf Tournament occurs Nov. 12 at Pinewood Country Club. Registration and lunch begins at 11 a.m., while the competition starts at noon. The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes lunch, dinner, drinks, green fees, carts and access to practice facilities and prizes. All proceeds benefit Keep Slidell Beautiful’s litter prevention programs, beautification projects and community improvement projects. Sponsorships, which range from $100-$2,000, are available. Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program

The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
