We are so lucky to live in the part of the country that celebrates Mardi Gras. Where else can you go to see parades every weekend, have some fun, grab some beads and doubloons, and just let your hair down for a while?

Causeway traffic woes could be helped

As thousands of western St. Tammany commuters can attest each day, the construction on the Southshore end of the Causeway is no fun to maneuver, especially during early morning rush hour traveling southbound. Add inclimate weather and the situation worsens.

A defining moment

Governor Mitt Romney’s statement about not worrying about the poor has been treated as a gaffe in much of the media, and those in the Republican establishment who have been rushing toward endorsing his coronation as the GOP’s nominee for president — with 90 percent of the delegates still not yet chosen — have been trying to sweep his statement under the rug.

State retirement debt reform now

Governor Bobby Jindal recently revealed his legislative package to revamp the way Louisiana funds its state retirement plans. His proposals aim to tackle accumulated unfunded pension debt that began accruing back in 1936 with the creation of the teachers' retirement system. Eventually, additional systems were established, including those for state police, school employees, and rank-and-file state workers.
